Are you aware that in this country, there are human beings who get harassed, discriminated, abused and stigmatized because of their sexual orientation? WE CAN END IT through advocacy. LGBTIQ+ people in Eswatini regularly face societal discrimination and harassment. They face challenges within their families, healthcare centers, accessing a lot of services, and prone to gender based violence. The LGBTIQs are being criticized because the society lacks knowledge and understanding that these people are humans too and deserves equal rights. As such, most of them choose to remain in the closet or move to neighboring countries to find peace
What is ‘Smash Hate & Embrace Diversity’ program?
Seeing that many of emaSwati discriminates and isolate themselves from the LGBTIQ COMMUNITY members because of lack of information, an idea of sensitizing the Citizens of Eswatini through the ‘smash hate’ program would do, where issues faced by the LGBTIQ community, including Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and Health were discussed. Here is a piece of what you need to know and probably will enlighten your mind thus smash the stigma and hatred towards the community.

The LGBTIQ Community
This is a group of diverse people who are sharing things in common and they do exist in Eswatini. The term emphasizes a unified culture based on sexuality and gender identity. You may have heard or rather seen this abbreviation before, but you had no idea what it meant or stands for. LGBTIQ is an acronym for:
Lesbian: a term that may be used by someone who identifies as a woman and who is attracted to other woman.
Gay: a term that may be used by someone who identifies as a man and is attracted to other man.
Bisexual: a term that may be used by someone who is attracted to people of their own gender and people of another gender.
Transgender: this is an umbrella term referring to people whose gender identity differs from their sex assigned at birth.
Intersex: is a general term used for the condition in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn’t seem to fit the typical medical definitions of female/ male and usually with both private parts.
Queer: a term that may be used to describe someone who is attracted to individuals of various gender identities on the spectrum.
Gender identity
...refers to your internal sense of self as a man, woman, a blend of both, and neither of those. Gender identity can be the same or differ from your assigned sex at birth. Gender identity is different from sexual orientation.
Definitions particular to current Gender Identity options:
Man/Male refers to people with internal sense of being a man whilst a Woman/Female refers to people with internal sense of being a woman. A Transgender Man is a person assigned female at birth and currently identifies as man whilst a Transgender Woman is a person assigned male at birth and currently identifies as woman. Then a Genderqueer is an identity used by people who do not identify their gender within the gender binary of man/woman.
